My almost-eight-year-old recieved a Lego set when we celebrated his birthday on Saturday. As we got into the car after church, he was already making plans for his afternoon.

“First, I’m going to have some lunch, then I’m going to eat leftover cake, and then I’m going to build my Lego set.”

And that is exactly what he did.

Two hours later, he and his brother excitedly exited his room with a look of triumph. In his hand, he held a helicopter that they had painstakingly worked on.

Children love to build and design….hence the success of Lego Bricks. And when we can add that into our math time, not only do our children enjoy it more, they learn more!!

Geometry is an easy place to do a little building and they line and angles worksheets get our kiddos creating.

Before the Task Cards

It is important our children know what they are building before they….start building. One way I love for children to learn vocabulary words is through the site Math Is Fun! This site provides definitions for math words, and also has interactive pictures that children can manipulate.

While they are looking up the words, have them create a simple interactive notebook, like this one, and now they have a cheat sheet to help them when they begin to explore some more.

For these lines and angles worksheets, they will need to know the following words…

  1. Right Angles
  2. Acute Angles
  3. Obtuse Angles
  4. Intersecting Lines
  5. Parallel Lines
  6. Perpendicular Lines
  7. Ray
  8. Line
  9. Line Segment

Directions –

The directions are pretty simple. All you have to do is have the children use conversation hearts to make the following lines and angles.

There are two sets of cards. The first set has the vocabulary word written on it, and the picture is already drawn. This gives our kiddos a visual of each vocabulary word and allows them to practice making them.

Next, there are cards with just directions on them. Now the children must draw the vocabulary word and then make them with their hearts. It is a great way to see what they can remember on their own.
