Dividing Multiples of 10 by a Single Digit
If you have read much of my blog, you probably know the cautionary tale I’m about to tell you. Math needs hands-on direct instruction before games are played.
Game are a great substitution for boring worksheets, but they don’t take the place of great instruction.
So before you pass out this fun game, spend a few minutes playing with these problems.
You could make arrays with base ten blocks or just sort base ten blocks into groups…..and once that is done, then you can teach how to drop zeros and solve using a formula.
And once children are familiar with dividing multiples of 10 by a single digit, then it is time to practice with this Christmas game!!!
Well there really is no prep-work.
All you have to do is print off the game board you want to use.
Next, gather up some dice, calculators, and game markers.
Now you are ready to go!!!

Just as this game is easy to prep, the directions aren’t hard either.
- First, player one rolls the die and moves that many spaces.
- Next, they solve the problem while player two checks the answer on the calculator.
- If the answer is correct, the player one gets to stay in that space.
- Unfortunately, if they get the answer wrong they need to move back two spaces.
- Now it is player two’s turn, and the same the steps are completed.
- The first person to reach the star wins!!!
I hope your children enjoy this fun way of practicing the skill of dividing multiples of 10 by a single digit.
