Practice spelling and reading words with n blends. These Boom Cards focus on the blends “ng”, “nt”, “nk” and “nd”.
My kindergarten twins and are working our way through the blends. We just finished the “L” blends like “lk” (walk) and “ld” (bald), and now we are focusing on n blends like nt, nk, and nd.
It is amazing how hard this can be for my little girl. Reading has not come easy to her, but she is working hard and we are slowly making progress.
I made these Boom Cards mainly for my girl, but I decided to share them with you too. (I know they are math-related, but reading is just as important as math.)
Also, I want to stress that we are doing a lot more than just Boom Cards. She is building the words with magnetic letters, we’ve been doing do-a-dot pages, reading simple sentences with the words in them, and so much more. This is just one of the many ways we are tackling these “N blends”.
Listen And Spell “N” Blends:
The first set of Boom Cards focuses on spelling words.
The child can click on a button, listen to the word, and then spell it. I choose to make the consonants blue and the vowels red like she is used to seeing in our “All About Reading” curriculum.
I also added four letters that are not needed. That way a little more thought has to go into spelling the words.
Read and Click:
The next set of slides lets our little ones read the words, and then find the pictures that matches that word. For one of my twins, the reading comes so much easier. For the other, she would rather spell it than read it. I’ve found we have to do a lot of spelling before she is able to combine all the sounds to be able to read the word.
I hope your little ones enjoy this change of pace as much as mine do!
