Fun Digital Resources For Comparing Two Numbers Between 0 and 10

These self-checking digital resources get kids comparing two numbers. One set has children clicking on numbers that are more, and another has them clicking on numbers that are less. Finally, they drag the greater than, less than, or equal sign into the blank space.

Comparing two numbers can be easy for some kiddos, but others need a little more work. And that is where my little girl is right now. We have been working hard on quickly recognizing numbers 0 – 10 using dice, ten frames, fingers, and tally marks. And now we are moving into comparing those numbers.

And one of the ways we are practicing is with Boom Cards. They are quick, easy, and require no-prep. And they are self-checking. So it is a win-win for us.

(As a side note, before doing the Boom cards we have done a ton of counting and hands-on activities with manipulatives. And as always, I would suggest that before using Boom cards, your children have counted actual objects.)

Comparing Two Numbers:

To accomplish all that I wanted my little girl to do, I ended up making 6 decks.

Which is More?

We began with an easy one. Which is more?

For most children they tend to know who has more. Hince the fun phrase, “It’s not fair. She has more than me!!!”

So this seemed the logical place to start.

The first deck she worked through had the numbers 0 – 5 on them. She had to look at tally marks, ten frames, dice, and fingers and click on the picture that had more.

Then we moved to the deck that focused on the numbers 6 – 10. Once again she clicked on the picture that showed more.

Which one has Less?

Next, we moved into a little bit harder deck. Once again I used ten frames, fingers, dice, and tally marks, but now she had to click on the picture that showed less. Of course, this is just the work up into using the terms greater than and less than….but it is an easy step stone to get there.

Greater Than or Less Than?

Finally, it was time to begin using the greater than, less than, or equal to sign. At the beginning I would have her choose the number or picture that was greater.

Next, we would find the “Alligator mouth” that would eat the picture or number that was more.

Then, we did the hard part. We practiced saying the correct sentence. We would look at the first picture and decided if it was less or more. I would often remind her that if the “alligator mouth” was not eating it, then it was less.

If it was less, we would practice saying, “Three is less than five.”

But if the “alligator mouth” was eating the first number, we would practice saying, “Five is greater than two.”

Once again, we started with numbers 0 – 5 and then moved onto 6 – 10. Finally, I combined then into one deck and we worked on comparing numbers 0 – 10.
