Lattice Method Multiplication Worksheet | Free Printable

Hey!! Do you love adding numbers? Do you know multiplication is one kind of addition? How will you feel if I can teach you a new shortcut technique for multiplying things? Undoubtedly you will be excited now to learn the new method. This method is called the lattice method. I have added some worksheets here in this article. I hope this lattice method multiplication worksheet will help you to multiply numbers more easily and fastly.

So without any further delay, let’s jump into the method to know how to multiply with the lattice method in multiplication. Use the lattice method multiplication worksheet part by part for more practice.

How to Use Lattice Method in Multiplication

This method is a total use of basic mathematical addition and multiplication. You just need to use 1-digit addition and multiplication here to get the product. Let’s assume an example: 39 x 15. Now, I am going to solve the problem step-by-step.

Step 1: Firstly, draw 2 columns for 39 and 2 rows for 15. You should draw columns and rows according to the digits of the numbers. As both of the numbers in this example are 2-digit, I  have drawn 2 columns and 2 rows. If I have 9 instead of 15 then I will draw 1 column only.

Draw the Grids

Step 2: Now draw diagonal lines just like the picture given below.

Draw Diagonal Lines

Step 3: Next, we multiply the first number of the multiplicand and the first of the multiplier. Here, the first number of the multiplicand is 3 and the first number of the multiplier is 1. Multiply them. You will get product 03. Write the product in the first box separated by a diagonal as shown in the figure.

Write the Products

Step 4: Then, multiply the 2nd digit of the multiplicand and the 1st digit of the multiplier and write the product like the former one in the 2nd box of 1st row.

Step 5: Multiply 1st digit of the first number and 2nd digit of the second number and write the product in the first box of the second row separated by a diagonal. Do the same for the second digit.

Of the first number and second digit of the second number and write them in the 2nd box of the 2nd row.

Fill the Boxes

Step 6: Now add the diagonal numbers like the picture given below.

Add the Diagonal Numbers

Note: While adding, you may need to carry double digit sums to the next place.

4 Different Types of Multiplication Using Lattice Method

This lattice method multiplication worksheet will help your young champs to learn multiplication, a basic math operation of calculations. The technique is quite easy and simple. Here I will show 4 different types of multiplication problems using the lattice method. I hope your kiddos from grades 1-3 will be very happy and feel interested in the activities. So follow the methods one by one.

2 Digit Lattice Method Multiplication

This portion is going to describe 2 digit lattice method multiplication. Here you will face the lattice method to multiply 2-digits by 1-digit, 2-digits by 2-digits.

2 Digit by 1 Digit Lattice Method Multiplication

I have explained a general method for you in the second paragraph. The method is for 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. Here, you need to multiply a 2-digit number by 1-digit. The main difference between these two methods is the row will be only one here as the multiplier is one digit.

Using Lattice Method Multiplication to Multiply 2 Digit by 2 Digit

This method is described totally in the second paragraph. Do step-by-step procedures as mentioned earlier. Practice the multiplications given in the pdf section.

3 Digit Lattice Method Multiplication

This method is quite hard for the kiddos if they cannot understand the above-mentioned activities. Here I will show you how to multiply 3-digit by 2-digit, and 3-digit by 3-digit by means of the lattice method.

3 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication

This multiplication is quite similar to the multiplication shown in the second paragraph. The main difference between these two methods is the column number will be 3 here as the multiplicand is a three-digit number. The rest of the procedures are same.

3 Digit by 3 Digit Multiplication

The main difference between this method and the former method is the row number. The row number and column number of the lattice are 3 by 3. All the rest procedures are the same. Practice multiplication of 3-digit by 3-digit in the attached worksheet.

4 Digit Multiplication by Using Lattice Method

This is the next level of the provided activities. The kiddos need to do 4-digit multiplication by using the lattice method. Here, you will find 4-digit by 2-digit, 4-digit by 3-digit, and 4-digit by 4-digit multiplication.

4 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication

Here, the column number will be four and the row number will be two. The rest of the procedure will be the same. You will get the digit-by-digit product written in the diagonal in the boxes. Then sum up the numbers written in the diagonals. You will get the product of the multiplicands and multipliers after that.

4 Digit by 3 Digit Multiplication

Here, the row number will be 3 and the column number will be four. You will get the product after summing up the numbers written in the sectors of the diagonals.

4 Digit by 4 Digit Multiplication

This is quite hard in all of the three examples shown in this portion of this activity. You need to draw four-by-four grids to solve four digits by four digits multiplication. Practice from the worksheets to enhance your skills.

5 Digit Lattice Method Multiplication

Of the available levels, this one is the toughest. The youngsters must multiply numbers with five digits using the lattice method. Multiplication of five digits by two, three, and four is available in this place.

5 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication

In this case, there will be a fifth column and a second row. The rest of the process will proceed similarly. You will receive the product written diagonally in the boxes, digit by digit. The numbers in the diagonals should then be added. After that, you will have the result of the product of the multiplicands and multipliers.

5 Digit by 3 Digit Multiplication

Here, the row number will be 3 and the column number will be 5. You will get the product after summing up the numbers written in the sectors of the diagonals.

5 Digit by 4 Digit Multiplication

This is quite hard in all of the three examples shown in this portion of this activity. You need to draw five-by-four grids to solve four digits by four digits multiplication. Practice from the worksheets to enhance your skills.
