Converting Proper Fractions to Decimals Having 10 or 100 as Denominator

The decimal point is placed one place to the left of the first digit in the numerator when converting a fraction with 10 in the denominator.

The decimal point is placed two places left of the first digit in the numerator when converting a fraction with 100 in the denominator.


Converting Mixed Fractions to Decimals with Denominator 10 or 100 

In this method, first convert the mixed number into an improper fraction.

Then the decimal point is placed one place to the left of the first digit in the numerator when converting a fraction with 10 in the denominator.

The decimal point is placed two places left of the first digit in the numerator when converting a fraction with 100 in the denominator.


Converting Fractions and Mixed Numbers to Decimals with Denominators 10, 100 or 1000

In this exercise, the mixed number will first be transformed into an improper fraction.

When converting a fraction with 10 in the denominator, the decimal point is then positioned one place to the left of the first digit in the numerator. When converting a fraction with 100 in the denominator, the decimal point is two places to the left of the first digit in the numerator.

On the other hand, when the denominator is 100, the decimal point is three places to the left of the first digit in the numerator.


Converting Proper Fractions to Decimals with Mixed Denominators 

Division can be used to change fractions into decimals. Divide the numerator by the denominator to convert any fraction to a decimal using this formula. 


Converting Mixed Numbers to Decimals with Mixed Denominators 

There are two techniques for converting mixed numbers to decimals.

  • The mixed number will first be transformed into an improper fraction, then the numerator will be divided by the denominator to get the decimal.
  • On the other hand, divide the numerator by the denominator of the fraction part and add the whole part to get the decimal.
