Finding Missing Addend with Fractions with the Same Denominators

It is similar to solving any other addition problem with fractions to find a missing addend when the denominators of the fractions are the same. The steps for finding the missing addend with a fraction are as follows:

Step 1: Find the common denominator. There is no need to identify a common denominator, as all of the fractions have the same denominator.

Step 2: Subtract the known fraction from the total.

Missing Addend with Proper Fractions Having Different Denominators

Determine a common denominator using the LCM of the different denominators to rewrite the fractions with the common denominator.

Subtract the known fraction from the total. If necessary, simplify the fraction.

Finding Missing Addend with Fractions and Mixed Numbers

In this process, first convert the mixed number into an improper fraction. Then subtract the given fraction from the addition and get your desired missing fraction.

Finding Missing Addend with Improper Fractions

Finding a missing addend with improper fractions is comparable to doing it with proper fractions. The steps are as follows:

  • If the fractions have different denominators, step one is to find the common denominator. They must all have the same denominator to find a missing addend.
  • Then the known fraction is subtracted from the total to find the missing addend.
