Multiplication as Repeated Addition Worksheet

FREE Hands-On Multiplication as Repeated Addition Worksheet

The goal through these worksheets is to get children to understand that repeated addition is the same as multiplication.

In this example, the children are given the expression 2+ 2+ 2.

  1. The first step is to get out two hearts for each two the see.

2. Next, they place the hearts on the grid to create an array.

3. Now, they write an expression for the array they created. Since they have two across the top and three down, they have a new expression 2 x 3.

4. Finally, they solve. You can have them skip count …. 2, 4, 6….or you could just have them count up the total number of hearts they used. This number (6) is the product.

Area

Want to add another word to your child’s vocabulary, and build some background knowledge. As you are talking about the array, add the word area.

Let your kiddos know that area is the amount of space inside the boundary. You could even say we find the area by multiplying the length times the width, and what we get is the answer.

So if the length is 1 and the width is 2 then the area is 2. 1 x 2 = 2.

That’s all you need to do. Some may get it, others may not. But you are planting seeds, building connections, and strengthening math sense.

You’ve Got This,

Rachel
