# FREE St. Patrick’s Day Odd and Even Activity

You’ll love this FREE St. Patrick’s Day odd and even activity. There are cards for the numbers 1 – 100 and the children sort them into odd and even piles.

As always, I want to encourage you to do some hands-on activities before you do this activity. The words odd and even are abstract terms. And telling our children even numbers end in 0,2,4,6, or 8 do not help them understand the term.

I suggest getting some Lucky Charms and letting them count out the lower numbers and see if they can make pairs. If there is an “odd one out” then that number is odd. If there is a pair for each cereal piece then the number is even. It is a very simple way to let children play with the numbers and discover for themselves the meaning of off and even numbers.

You can take it a step further, and have them make a list of what all the even numbers end in, and what the odd numbers end in. This way they are telling YOU the rule, and not the other way around!!!

## Prep-Work

With just a little cutting this activity will be ready to use.

- First, print off the pages with the words odd and even on it.
- Next, print off the numbers you want to use.
- Finally, cut them out and laminate if you want extra durability. And that’s it.

## Odd and Even Activity

Now comes the fun part…the sort.

Hand your sweet little one ten to twenty numbers and have them sort the number into odd and even piles. Once they have done that, let them explain to you why they put the numbers where they did.

This is another great opportunity for them to tell you the rules about odd and even numbers and explain what they are.

You can even extend the lesson, by having them write out all the numbers that are odd or even. It is always good to get in some number handwriting practice.
