It is a multiplying decimal activity.

I taught upper grades for most of my teaching career, and though I don’t have kids that can do these type of math problems, I still love creating them.

So here it is!

## Prep- Work

Unfortunately, puzzles require a little prep-work. But once they are done, you have an activity that is fun and can be used over and over.

- First, print off all the puzzles. Then print off the recording sheet for each student.
- Now, cut out the puzzles and laminate.
- Put them in a math center and you are ready to go!

## Estimating:

One way these puzzles can be used is for an estimation challenge. Having children being able to make an “educated guess” regarding the answer will help them place the decimal in the correct place.

Before the children solve the problems, have them see if they can put all the trees that will equal 0 – 20 in one pile. Create a different pile for 21 to 40, and then make a final pile for 41 and above.

It is a wonderful way to practice estimating, but it also helps them get ready to solve.

## Multiplying Decimals Activity

Let’s get multiplying.

After the sort, now all the kiddos have to do is solve and find the matching pieces.

Now, I know as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher I needed some accountability so my math centers did not become a time to just socialize. And sometimes I flat out had to have a grade. I provided a record sheet for the children to write down their answers.

You could simply check to make sure they did something, or you could use it as a grade. Whatever you need!!!

I hope your older kiddos enjoy a break from practicing with a worksheet!
