And to celebrate the fact that fall is coming….here is an adding and subtracting decimal worksheet with an apple theme.Â

## Prep-Work

Ahh, this is a no-prep activity, so just print and gather some supplies.

I highly recommend having some base ten blocks nearby to help if needed. And if your children like to color, grab some crayons too.

## Adding and Subtracting Decimal Worksheet:

Let’s look at how to solve one of these problems using base ten blocks.

First, we will begin by building the number 8.17.

- The cubes will represent the number in the hundredths place, so I get out seven cubes.
- The longs will represent the number in the tenths place, so I get out 1 long.
- Finally, the flats will be used for the ones place. I will need eight flats.

Now, we add base ten blocks until we get to the number on the next apple.

- To get from 17 hundredths to 20 hundredths (or 2 tenths)….I just need to add three cubes.

Finally, we keep adding another three cubes to figure out what the number should be on the missing apple.

It is that easy to help children figure out how to find the missing number. And all the while they will be adding and subtracting decimals.
